Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. November 2019.
The next stop on this visual journey through Mexico is Atotonilco El Alto, a town of 50,000 in the hills of Jalisco. I visited Atotonilco while on location for a work project in November 2019. In contrast to the many weeks I’ve spent exploring Mexico City, I was only in Atotonilco for half a day, but loved the quiet welcome it offered. My family comes from Jalisco and I wanted to soak up the experience, however brief.
The first stop was Templo San Cayetano, a church built into the hillside that overlooked the town, followed by a visit to Parque Ecológico Taretán. I explored the center of town, together with the team I was working with, for the rest of the morning.
I took a detour at one point and discovered a panadería in full production mode. From the front of the shop, I could see fresh bread being pulled out of the oven and new rolls being shaped to go in. They happily let me into the back area to capture the action up close. Before leaving, I bought an assortment of pan dulce for the team that we ate as we headed out of town. Enjoy these scenes of Atotonilco El Alto!
