Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico. March 2020.
At the beginning of March, I had the opportunity to travel to Valle de Guadalupe for a work project. Just outside of Ensenada in the northern part of Baja California, the valley is nestled amongst the mountains and carries the breeze from the ocean to the many vineyards. It has become known as one of the top wine regions in Mexico and makes a perfect weekend destination from southern California.
After flying into San Diego, I met a work friend and we headed south across the border to Tijuana. Previously, I always had flown into Mexico and this was my first experience seeing la frontera and the wall in person. The significance of being there and my privilege of easily crossing from one side to another was not lost on me.
The first stop was Tacos El Yaqui in Rosarito and then we continued down Highway 1 until heading inland toward Valle de Guadalupe. After wine tasting at Alximia Vinicola, we enjoyed dinner at Fauna Restaurante at Bruma and then checked in at Oeno Wine Resort. The next day started with a drive to Ensenada for breakfast at Casa Marcelo, followed by a day working, and ending with the incredible tasting menu at Chef Sheyla Alvarado’s Lunario Restaurante. The next day was focused on work project with Secret Supper. On our final day, we enjoyed breakfast and café de olla at Doña Esthela followed by wine tasting at Finca la Carrodilla and Lomita. Enjoy these photos of the beautiful Valle de Guadalupe!
